FREE Training Course
He Rongoā Pai He Oranga Whānau is a FREE two day wānanga offered by PHARMAC on
medicines training including Rongoā Māori for health professionals and community workers
working alongside Māori whānau.
Aims
The wānanga aims to: improve access to medicines; increase awareness of safe and appropriate use of medications; promote medications as part of managing overall healthcare; and includes a component on Rongoā Māori.
Topics covered include:
- Jargon busting medical terms
- Māori health and Māori priorities
- Rongoā Māori
- Health conditions that impact on Māori
- The role of Pharmaceuticals in New Zealand health
- Access to subsidised medicines
- The 5 R’s – practical application
- Effective communication with Māori
Presenters
Members of the team include Dr Peter Jansen, Dr Rawiri Jansen, Maria Barnes (Kairongoā), Leanne Te Karu (Māori Pharmacist), Awhimai Reynolds and Roy Hoerara.
Eligibility
Preference is given to Registered Nurses working in a primary care role or Māori Community Health Workers who are committeed to positive health outcomes for whānau. To discuss your eligibility please contact:
